Jacquard Story

The inspiration behind the name Jacquard is the ground breaking invention by joseph Marie jacquard , the son of a silk weaver.

As a young boy, jacquard assisted his parents in the weaving process and the tediousness of the job inspired him to design a system by which the process could be automated.

In 1801 the jacquard loom finally made its appearance, but was first destroyed by weavers fearing unemployment. The French government took charge by 1812 there were 11,000 looms being used in France.

The loom uses a series of punch-cards (on-off) to control the warp and weft threads thus allowing automatic production of intricate woven patterns. The jacquard loom was the first practical application of the binary system and thus the precursor that led to the development of the calculator and the modern computer. Over 200 years later jacquard systems strives for the same adaptability and invention regardless of the complexity of the project.
